Another shout out to Andrew Corbin and his Belmont Rowing Crew! They raced at the Head of the South regatta in Augusta, Georgia two weekends ago. It was miserable cold and rainy weather but Andrew and his teammates pushed through it. In the quad race they finished with the 3 rd time but the judges penalized them for slightly touching another boat on course. They were placed in 4th which is still amazing in this very competitive event. He also raced in the pair, placing 4th! Congratulations Andrew.

Good afternoon Discovery family. I hope that everyone has had a wonderful weekend. Thanks to everyone who brought food for our Thanksgiving Feast on Friday. Everyone had a wonderful time and it gave us a chance to reflect on all of the things we're thankful for. Below are the announcements for this week. We will have Enrichment on Monday and Community on Tuesday. Thanksgiving holiday break will be Wednesday November 22nd through Sunday November 26th. Students, please keep in mind our Pinnochio norm. I have heard rumors about quite a bit of cheating over the past couple of weeks. You will gain nothing by cheating and will hinder what you are able to learn. It is much better to ask questions when you don't understand something and ask for support when you need it. The Character Awards for the past couple of weeks can be found at https://drive.google.com/file/d/10Q3g9HdLVD1wC6scxBAFQov4iLfgnrdv/view Let's have a good short week. If you need anything, please let us know. Take care. #DiscoverU

Good afternoon Discovery family. I hope that everyone has enjoyed the Veterans Day weekend. Below are the announcements for this week. Skip Watts will be at DHS on Tuesday evening at 5:30 to provide information to seniors and thier parents in regards to the FAFSA. This meeting will be held in the media center. Seniors and their parents should plan to attend this important information session. The Junior Lunch and Learn scheduled for Friday will be rescheduled. Junior parents, please be on the lookout for an email from Ms. Arditti about a new date. Our annual Thanksgiving Feast will be on Friday. Students should plan to bring a dish to share. Seniors, as you're receiving your college acceptance letters, please bring a copy to the front office so we can post them on our wall. All students, please be sure that you are shutting your chromebooks down several times a week. This helps updates to take place so that your chromebook will not be forced shut down. Students and parents, please be reminded of our attendance policy. Students are not allowed to have more than 9 absences per semester without having to go through the appeals process. Also remember that 3 tardies equals 1 absence. Thanksgiving break will be Wednesday November 22nd through Sunday November 26th. I hope that everyone has a marvelous week. Take care. #DiscoverU

Good afternoon Discovery family. I hope that everyone has had a wonderful weekend. Below are the announcements for this week. We will have Enrichment on Monday and Tuesday, Advisory on Wednesday, and Community on Thursday. There will be no school for students or staff on Friday November 10th in observance of Veteran's Day. Please thank a veteran for their service to our country. Since 2017 the Guardian ad Litem program has participated in an annual Peanut Butter & Jelly campaign. This year the Guardian ad Litem program’s Peanut Butter and Jelly Campaign will run from October 15, 2023 through January 15, 2024. The Guardian ad Litem program is partnering with Newton-Conover City Schools to support backpack programs run by The Corner Table and People Offering Relief From Community Hunger (PORCH). Each of these backpack programs directly benefit children and families in Catawba County. Parents, faculty, staff or students can donate small (16 ounces or less) plastic jars of peanut butter and jelly at participating Discovery High School. The Newton-Conover Education Foundation is sponsoring a Christmas for the Children golf tournament on November 11th. More information about the tournament and what the funds will be used for can be found at https://birdease.com/Christmasforthechildren. On Tuesday November 14th, we will be hosting a FAFSA night for all seniors and their parents in our media center beginning at 5:30. On Friday November 17th, Ms. Arditti will be hosting a Junior Lunch & Learn for all juniors and their parents in our media center 11:15-12:15. Please plan to attend as she will be sharing very important information for junior year going into senior year. I hope everyone has a wonderful week ahead. As always, please reach out if there's anything you need. Take care. #DiscoverU

Good afternoon Discovery family. I hope that everyone has had a marvelous Monday. Just a reminder that our Sophomores will be taking the PreACT and our Juniors will be taking the CCRA (practice ACT) tests tomorrow. First breakfast will be served and sophomores and juniors should plan to be here by 7:40 in the morning. They will be allowed to sign out after the tests tomorrow provided they bring a note. Freshmen and Seniors will have an asychronous day tomorrow where they can complete their work from home. It would also be a good day to complete community service and seniors could make a college visit. The day will show as an absence tomorrow for Freshmen and Seniors, but it will be an excused absence so no need to worry. Sophomores and Juniors, get plenty of rest tonight and I'll see you in the morning. Take care. #DiscoverU
