Good afternoon Discovery family. I hope that everyone is enjoying the spring weather we are having this weekend. Below are the announcements for this week.

Monday & Tuesday - Enrichment, Wednesday - Advisory, Thursday - Family (Barham’s family gets the pizza party), Friday - March Madness Championship Game.

We will be having a Popcorn Fundraiser that starts on Monday evening and runs through Friday evening. The fundraiser is totally online. I sent an email to the students on Friday explaining everything about setting up their "store". Fifty percent of the sells come back to the school. The top 3 sales people will earn a prize.

Good luck to our Envirothon team as they compete at the Area Competition on Wednesday.

Our seniors will be attending a Career Fair at CVCC on Wednesday morning. A permission slip will be coming home on Monday that will need to be completed for students to be able to participate.

Our prom is on Saturday. I look forward to seeing everyone dressed up and ready to dance!

I hope that everyone enjoys the rest of their weekend. If you need anything, please don't hesitate to reach out. Take care.

Newton-Conover City Schools Child Nutrition is thinking about making a change to our Summer Food Service Program.

Right now, students must eat their meals on campus during the summer. We are looking at changing this so families can pick up five days of meals at a designated location and take them home.

We would love to hear from you! NCCS Parents and families, please take a moment to fill out the survey below and let us know if this change would help your family.

Your feedback is very important to us. Thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts so we can better serve our students and families. Please use this link to complete the survey: https://bit.ly/nccssummermeals.

I hope that everyone has a wonderful week. If there is anything you need, please let us know. Take care.

From Ms. Greenwald regarding our Quill Team: Our team did great today at the state tournament. We don’t have specific numbers yet but they finished 6th place. I’m very proud of them. They have worked hard to practice and prepare. They had great attitudes.

This year they were able to participate in a workshop with a poet laureate. Clancy presented the poem she wrote on stage. The whole team then went on stage to present their group poem. They did a great job.

They represented Discovery well!

Good evening Discovery family. Please pay close attention to the announcement below.

Tomorrow, February 24th, our Juniors will be taking the ACT and our Sophomores will be taking the CCRA (practice ACT). For the Juniors, the ACT will be paper/pencil. For the Sophomores, the CCRA will be online so they need to make sure to charge their chromebook tonight and bring it with them tomorrow. Both Juniors and Sophomores can bring their calculator with them to use. Make sure to get plenty of sleep this evening. Breakfast will be served at school in the morning if you need it.

Freshmen and Seniors will have an independent study day at home tomorrow. Seniors can also use tomorrow for college visits.

Take care and I'll see Juniors and Sophomores tomorrow!

Good afternoon Discovery family. I hope that everyone is having a wonderful weekend and not blowing away. Below are the announcements for this week.

On Friday, I shared with students that we are implementing a new tardy policy. My number one responsibility is to make sure that students have the skills necessary to be successful in life. One of those skills is responsibility which means not just getting to school, but getting to school on time. Students are supposed to be in their first period class at 7:40. Therefore, the door at the gym will be closed and locked at 7:38. If students arrive on campus after this time, they will need to sign in at the front office. For the upperclassmen who arrive later, they will need to be on campus at least 2 minutes before the start of their class not to be counted tardy. Three unexcused tardies will equal an absence moving forward. All of this starts tomorrow.

Our Juniors will be taking the ACT on Tuesday and our Sophomores will be taking the CCRA (practice ACT) on Tuesday. Freshmen and Seniors will have an independent study day on this day. I also encourage Seniors to use it as a college visit day.

We will have Enrichment on Monday, Advisory on Wednesday, SEL on Thursday and Community on Friday.

This week's Character Awards can be found at: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1edh-ULEwz5UrdSTwRMjJ_VzaHVpyT4e6/view?usp=sharing.

I hope that everyone has a terrific week. As always, if there is anything you need, please let us know. Take care.
