Newton-Conover City Schools will operate on a 2-hour delay for Students and Staff on Friday, December 5, 2025. Kid Connection will operate on a 2-hour delay as well. As projections are uncertain and varied, weather will continue to be monitored overnight and further school delay or closure may still occur. If further modifications to the school day are necessary, additional notifications will occur.

As I think about everything I'm thankful for, Discovery's students, staff, and families is definitely towards the top of that list. Below are the announcements for this week.

We will run a regular schedule tomorrow. At 10:40, we'll meet in the gym before dismissing you all to get your plate of food. Junior summit students will not have their class tomorrow, but will need to complete their online assignment. Third period senior summit students will start their class at 12:30. Fourth period senior summit students will start their class at regular time.

We had our annual pie eating contest. Congratulations to Aidan and Ms. Arditti's family on the win!

With the NCHS soccer team playing in the state championship in Greensboro tomorrow afternoon, we will be dismissing school at 1:00 pm. This will allow students and staff the opportunity to go to the match and cheer our Red Devils on. Again, school will be dismissed at 1:00 pm tomorrow, Friday November 21st.
Congratulations to Lyla, Bailey, Aivi, Gissel, and Carsyn for being selected to the All-County Chorus. These ladies will be performing on Saturday at 1:30 at St. Luke's United Methodist Church in Hickory.

Congratulations to Gio, Jocelyn, Ryan, Jonathan, Noah, Garrison, Joaquin, Daeton, Alora, Allie, Brizza, Natalie, Kaitlyn, Vanessa, Aidan, Josh, Daniel, Aliah, Jonathan, and Anthony on being named to the All-County Band. A special shout out to Jonathan, Aidan, Josh, Daniel, and Jonathan on being selected as First Chair of their respective instruments. These students will be performing on Tuesday November 25th at 6 pm in the LRU PE Monroe Auditorium.

We may be adjusting the day we do it due to the number of our students who qualified for All-County Band. Keep your eyes open for an email tomorrow stating whether or not we'll change the date.
As a reminder, school starts at 7:40 and students should be in their classes by this time. Also, be sure that you finish this first semester strong. We will have several fun events planned, but you also need to make sure you're taking care of business in the classroom.

It was a wonderful event and I heard some many guests mention that we need to continue to do it in the future. We also enjoyed hosting students from our three elementary schools for Trick or Treating on Friday.

Our sophomores will take the PreACT on Tuesday and our juniors will take the CCRA (practice ACT) on Tuesday. This will be an asynchronous learning day for our freshmen and seniors.
On Thursday 6-8:30, we will be hosting a Fall Festival for the community. We will need help to make this as successful as possible. Please refer to the volunteer form that was sent out and consider helping if you're able. We are looking forward to this event which will help us engage with our local community.
On Friday, we will be hosting a Trick-or-Treat event for our three elementary schools. This was a fun activity for us last year and look forward to doing it for the elementary students again this year.
Daylight Savings Time ends on Sunday November 2nd. You need to be sure to set your clocks back 1 hour Saturday night before you go to bed.
On Tuesday evening 6-8 pm, our Catawba County Commissioners are hosting a Town Hall meeting at Conover Station. I encourage you all to attend if you're able to hear their plan to consolidate the three school systems in Catawba County. I want them to see how important N-CCS is to each of us and especially how important DHS is!!
