We will be having an Open House on Thursday September 17th 5:30-6:30 so parents will have the opportunity to meet their student's teachers. It will be a drop in format.
We will have our annual Park Day on Friday September 18th. Be on the look out for more information and a parent permission form.

Good afternoon Discovery family. Please see this joint letter from Newton-Conover City Schools and Hickory City Schools regarding an update with the merger discussion. It provides a timeline that the state board of education will follow in the coming months before voting on it. Please continue advocating for a comprehensive study by emailing Tiffany Lucas at tiffany.lucas@dpi.nc.gov.
We will begin our regular schedule on Monday. You will go to your period 11 or 1st period class when you leave the gym or cafeteria at 7:30.
Underclassmen pictures will take place on Thursday September 3rd. Please refer to the attachment for more information.
Our teachers will be available after school for any student who has questions or needs extra help. Refer to the schedule below to see when each teacher will be available.

We Still Need Your Voice!
As we approach the September 2–3 State Board of Education meeting, it is important that we continue telling the story of Newton-Conover City Schools and making sure the State Board understands the educational impact, financial impact, and community impact of the proposed merger.
Chairman Davis has indicated that the timeline and next steps will be discussed at the upcoming meeting. This means our voices still matter, and we want the State Board to have a clear understanding of what is best for our students, staff, schools, and community.
If you have not yet shared your support, please take a few minutes to write a letter. And yes, you can send more than one letter! We encourage supporters to continue sharing their personal experiences, perspectives, and reasons why maintaining Newton-Conover City Schools matters.

All students should plan to be here by 7:38 each day this upcoming week. Remember that you are counted tardy if you are not in your classroom by 7:40. Gym doors will open for students at 7:10 each morning.
Breakfast is free for all students again this year and will be served in the cafeteria 7:10-7:38.
Car riders will be dropped off and picked up at the semi-circle drive at the gym this year. There will be signage there directing parents where to go. Please be sure to follow this pattern to keep everyone safe.

Parents, if you haven't already done so, please complete the online student registration. Registration is now open for all returning students (those who finished the previous school year enrolled with Newton-Conover City Schools).
To ensure your child is ready for the first day of school, please log in to your Infinite Campus Parent Portal (https://182.ncsis.gov/campus/portal/parents/psu182newton.jsp) and complete the Returning Student Registration for each returning student in your household no later than August 10, 2026.
New students should go to https://www.newton-conover.org/page/enrolling-in-newton-conover-city-schools and click on New Student Enrollment. This HAS TO BE COMPLETED before students can receive their chromebook, schedule, and parking pass (if purchasing one). If parents have any questions about the registration, please contact the school.
Chromebook pick up is as follows (seniors and juniors can purchase a parking pass at the same time):
Seniors - 8/13 when you come to get your senior portrait made
Juniors - 8/18 1:00-2:00
Sophomores - 8/18 2:00-3:00

Senior portraits are on Thursday August 13th. Please refer to the attached information and schedule.
We will have a campus clean up day on Friday August 14th 1:00-3:00 pm. This will be a great opportunity to gain some community service hours. If you can participate, please plan to bring work gloves. We will also plant some new flowers around campus on Saturday August 15th 10:00-11:00 am. Again, this will be a great opportunity to gain community service time.

Dear Newton-Conover City Schools Families and Community,
Today, the North Carolina State Board of Education met, and while the proposed merger of Newton-Conover City Schools, Hickory City Schools, and Catawba County Schools was not a scheduled agenda item, the proposal was briefly discussed.
During the discussion, State Board members shared that they will carefully review the merger proposal and all accompanying materials using the criteria established in North Carolina law. They expect to discuss the review process, timeline, and next steps at their September meeting.
Chairman Eric Davis also acknowledged that the State Board has already received hundreds of letters regarding this proposal. Let's continue to flood the inbox! I believe we can make it thousands!
This is our opportunity to ensure the State Board hears directly from the people who know Newton-Conover City Schools best: our students, parents, employees, alumni, business partners, retirees, and community members. Our schools are thriving because of the commitment of our teachers, staff, families, and community. Together, we have built a district that offers outstanding academic opportunities, strong extracurricular programs, innovative initiatives, and a culture where students are known, supported, and challenged to succeed. Those accomplishments are worth protecting.
We need every supporter of Newton-Conover City Schools to make their voice heard. Tell the State Board why Newton-Conover City Schools matters to you. Tell them about the teachers who changed lives, the opportunities your children have received, the pride you have in our schools, and why you believe our district should remain independent. Personal stories from our community will help the State Board understand what is at stake and why preserving our district matters. Share with them the financial impact the merger will make with our students and families.
