Good afternoon Discovery family. I hope that everyone is enjoying the fall weather we are having. Below are the announcements for the upcoming week.

As a reminder, we will be filming our commercial on Tuesday and Wednesday of this week. They will be conducting interviews in the media center on Tuesday so please be sure that you are quiet when moving about the hallway. Ms.Darden’s classes will meet in Ms. Amerto’s old classroom on this day. On Wednesday, Mr. Pope and his crew will be moving about the building filming in classrooms, gym, cafeteria, etc. Students, please go about your activities as usual and don't stare at the cameras.
We will host our Meet and Greet on Wednesday October 11th 3:00-5:00 so parents will have an opportunity to speak with their child's teachers and ask any questions they may have.
Our National Honor Society will be hosting a Blood Drive on Friday October 13th.
Monday October 16th is the Underclassmen Make up Picture day. If you were absent on the original date, you will need to have your picture made on this date. There is no online prepay ordering available for make ups. Orders can be placed using the paper forms from the initial fall picture day.

Ms. Isaac's Theatre classes were assigned to go to a local nursing home and interview residents about their lives. The residents were asked to tell the students about their favorite memory or event that happened to them during their lives. Ms. Isaac's students will then turn their stories into scripts and act them out for the residents later this semester.
2023 DHS graduate, Connor Page, came back today to visit while he's on break from NCSU.

Monday is National Custodians Day! Please let Mr. Audrey know how much we appreciate everything he does for our school.
Student drivers are reminded that they should not park in the lot across from Newton-Conover High School.
On October 10th and 11th, we will have guests on our campus who will be working to put together a professional commercial highlighting all the wonderful things we have going on at DHS. I will be asking some of you to speak about what makes Discovery special.
On Wednesday October 11th 3:00-5:00, we will be hosting a Meet and Greet that will provide parents an opportunity to come in and meet with your teachers. By Friday October 6th, teachers will be sending out an overview video to your parents providing a synopsis of the class. The Meet and Greet will simply be a drop in event to provide parents an opportunity to ask any questions they may have after watching the video.

The Outdoors Club will have a meeting tomorrow morning at 7:20 in the cafeteria. Anyone interested in participating in this club is encouraged to attend.
Science Olympiad is hosting a Krispy Kreme doughnut fundraiser on Wednesday and Thursday, September 27th and 28th! Students will have the opportunity to either buy doughnuts directly or buy bogo cards that you can redeem at Krispy Kreme locations to get a free dozen doughnuts with every dozen bought (redeemable up to 10 times). Participation is greatly encouraged as Science Olympiad needs all the funding we can get! Students who may be interested in buying doughnuts should fill out the Google Form (https://forms.gle/ToE5XfwwgETWanw76) and indicate what they would like to purchase. If you are planning on buying doughnuts directly on Wednesday or Thursday, remember to bring money with you!
There is a teacher workday on Friday and thus there is no school for students on this date. Enjoy your long weekend.
