Our juniors had the opportunity to visit UNC - Charlotte today. What a great chance for our students to walk a college campus and see what college life is like and what opportunities are available.

From Ms. Nicholson in regards to the Regional Science Olympiad Competition:
I want to say how thankful I am to be the leader of this amazing team! We had a wonderful day at CVCC for the NCSO regional competition. I'm extremely proud of our students because we were awarded the Conen Morgan Spirit Award 2024 out of 24 high school teams. This award demonstrates that our students show kindness and sportsmanship at all times. I honestly could not be more proud of each one of you.
We had some amazing results from some of our students as well. I will get notification soon if a few of the 1st place winners get invited to the State competition at NC State on April 13, 2024.

Good afternoon Discovery High School. I hope that everyone has had a great weekend thus far. Below are the announcements for this week.
I hope that everyone remembered to set their clocks ahead one hour last night as Daylight Savings Time started. Remember that Monday is a Teacher Workday and therefore, students do not have school.
We will have Enrichment on Tuesday (students should complete the 4th Qtr. Enrichment Form), Advisory on Wednesday (students will complete their registration forms for next year; juniors will complete those in their biology class at a later time), Advisory on Thursday (designated seniors will go to the gym to get signed off for CPR; all others will complete a Win at Social lesson) and Community on Friday (Seniors vs. Sophomores March Madness Game).
Congratulations to Ms. Nicholson and our Science Olympiad team as they had a terrific showing at Saturday's regional competition at CVCC. The team was awarded the Conen Morgan Spirit Award 2024 out of 24 high school teams. This award demonstrates that our students show kindness and sportsmanship at all times. The team also received 1st place in several events: Bradyn Blackwell and Suha Koilakh - 1st in Varsity Disease Detective and Yu Wue - 1st in JV Optics.
Parents of afternoon car riders, please do not block mail boxes in front of the townhomes and houses across from the school. I want to be a good neighbor and want to respect their request that we follow this. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me.

Our first March Madness game of the 2024 season took place yesterday between the Juniors and the Freshmen. Both teams played extremely hard and the atmosphere in the crowd was electric. In the end, the juniors won the game and will await the winner of the Seniors vs. the Sophomores.

Good afternoon Discovery family. I hope all of you have had a wonderful weekend. Below are the announcements for the upcoming week.
Students, as we come to the end of the 3rd quarter, please keep in mind the Pinnochio norm which states: Similar to the character in the movie, our goal is that students will be as genuinely honest and open with the staff and other students around them as they can. This norm should be displayed by being honest to yourself when completing assignments, tasks, and reaching out when you need it.
The end of the 3rd quarter is Thursday March 7th. There is no school for students on Friday March 8th and Monday March 11th as these are teacher workdays. Students, please see my emai that was sent on Saturday about a community service opportunity on those two dates.
Our enrichment schedule for this week is as follows: Monday and Tuesday Enrichment, Wednesday and Thursday is Community. On Monday, all 9th, 10th, and 11th graders will go to the gym to hear about CTE course options. On Wednesday, students have the opportunity to purchase a strip of tape for $1 to tape Mr. Whitener to the wall. Money raised will go to support kids with cancer.
Daylight Savings Time starts on Sunday March 10th. Everyone should set their clocks ahead 1 hour on this date.
On Wednesday March 13th, our juniors will be traveling to UNCC to tour their campus. More information will be coming from Ms. Arditti.

I hope that everyone has a wonderful short week. As always, please feel free to reach out if there is anything we can do for you.
