Good afternoon Discovery family. I hope that everyone has had a wonderful break and are ready to start the second semester strong tomorrow. Below are the announcements for this week.

Just a reminder of our Drop Off and Pick Up Procedures. Parents should enter the DHS campus heading North on North Ashe Ave and then turning right onto West 18th St. Parents should pull along the side of the road next to the gym to drop off and/or pick up students. Parents should not pull into the student parking lot or the bus circle. Parents should then exit West 18th St on Main.

Students who park on North Ashe Ave, this is a reminder that we will be blocking off several parking spots close to the cross walk at Newton-Conover High School to provide more clearance from that cross walk. This is a way to help ensure the safety of our students who walk to and from the NCHS campus. Those students who are accustomed to parking there should park in the lot across from NCHS and should get a pass from Ms. Sigmon in the office. There is no charge for this pass.

As we begin 2nd semester, I would encourage students to review our norms which can be found in the Parent/Student Handbook on our website. I want to point out specifically the Pinocchio Norm as we had several students who were cheating towards the end of first semester. Please keep in mind that this is not tolerated at DHS and it will not be tolerated at any college you attend or any profession you choose.

Our application is live on our website and we will begin recruiting this week. If you know of any current 8th grader, who may be interested in attending DHS next school year, please encourage them to complete the application.

4th Period Summit students may bring a parent note so that you may leave after 3rd period until your Summit classes begin 2nd semester. If you do not bring a note, you will not be allowed to leave.

This week we will follow this schedule:  Advisory on Monday, Family on Tuesday, Enrichment on Wednesday and Thursday, and Community on Friday. Tomorrow we will be using the following schedule:
