Cupcake Day - Friday September 1st

Good afternoon Discovery family. I hope that everyone is having a wonderful Labor Day weekend.

I want to thank everyone for a terrific first week of the 2023-24 school year. I cannot imagine it going any smoother than it did.

Each year, the US News & World Report determines the best high schools in America based on certain academic rigor standards. This year, DHS is recognized as the #11 best high school in the state of North Carolina and #1 in the Hickory metro area!!

There is no school on Monday September 4th due to the Labor Day holiday. Underclassmen pictures will be Thursday September 7th. On Friday September 8th at 11:00, Coach Carlos, NCHS women's soccer coach, will meet with any interested females who would like to play soccer this school year. Remember that you must live in the N-CCS district to participate.

We will follow our regular daily schedule beginning on Tuesday. We will have Enrichment on Tuesday and Wednesday, Advisory on Thursday, and Community on Friday.

I reviewed our Student and Parent Handbook with students this past week. It is located on our DHS website. I would encourage you to review it as well. Pay special attention to our drop off and pick up times, our norms, and our attendance policy which includes tardies.

Please remember our new traffic flow where all cars should turn onto 18th Street off of North Main Ave at Little Pigs. This has really helped reduce traffic congestion. Parents, remember that you should drop off and pick up your student on 18th street and please refrain from pulling into the student parking lot.

Below are clubs that are being offered currently.

Book Club - Ward - 1st & 3rd Thursdays of the month after school

Pickleball - Arditti - Thursdays after school until 3:45

Handprints for Christ - Barham - Friday mornings at 7:00

I hope that everyone enjoys the rest of your long holiday weekend. Take care.
