Good evening, Red Devil Family! Here are your announcements for the week of May 13-17, 2024. This is the last whole week of school for all students. Please make sure all cafeteria, technology, and library fees are paid before the end of the school year. Students will not receive their end-of-year report card, be allowed to participate in sports after-school activities, or receive a device next school year until these fees are paid off. N-CMS Beta Club is hosting a blood drive on Wednesday, May 15, from 2-6:30 p.m. If you are interested in donating blood, time slots are still available. Our goal is to collect 50 pints of blood. You can sign up for a time on the American Red Cross website. 8th-grade students will take their Math end-of-year test on Friday. 6th and 7th grade students will review and prepare for their tests the following week. Again, all students should be at school every day this week. Please make sure you return the permission slip by May 15 so your child can be dismissed at 1 p.m. on their last day of testing. Copies of the permission form are available in the main office. Starting the week of May 20th, students are not required to be in attendance on days they are not testing. However, the days they are not here will still count as an absence, but it will not impact a student's academic or promotional status. Once students are finished with all of their exams, they are finished with the school year. Before testing starts next week, please talk with your students about the importance of following instructions during testing. Failure to follow the rules set forth by the State of North Carolina can result in test misadministration. Individual students or whole classes could be forced to retake the EOG test on a different day if a misadministration occurs. Please be on time. If students arrive late to school and the test administration has started, they must wait to test or come on the makeup day. No phones, smartwatches, or electronic devices are allowed during the testing session. Please have students leave their phones and headphones at home. On Reading test day, students are not allowed to use phones, earbuds, or headphones during a testing session. If a cell phone or watch goes off during testing, it may be a test misadministration requiring the whole class to test another day. Students CANNOT talk during breaks. No food, gum, snacks, or drinks are allowed during testing. Students are allowed to bring a bottle of water. Students should not bring bookbags on their test days. Blankets are not permitted. Testing is over once the entire school has completed the testing session. In athletic news, There will be an informational meeting during school on Tuesday for any 6th and 7th-grade students interested in playing football or cheerleading next school year. Cheer tryouts will be held June 3-5, 3-4:30 p.m., at N-CMS. Students must have an updated sports physical on file to participate. That is all for our weekly announcements.

Today, 8th-grade students in Mrs. Hiatt's WIN block practiced claims, evidence, and cause and effect while completing a scientific breakout room. Students analyzed text and performed experiments. The claim stated that the mystery substance was baking soda. They tested the claim by mixing it with water and vinegar. Evidence proved the claim. A mess was made and fun was had by all proving Science is Messy and Learning is FUN!
