Newton-Conover Men's Basketball will be hosting a basketball youth camp for boys and girls on June 30th through July 3rd. The camp will last from 9 am to 12 pm, and the cost is $100 for each camper. Camp will be hosted at Newton-Conover Middle School this year due to construction at the high school. Campers will receive individual instruction on fundamentals and skill development from the Varsity Basketball coach, Nick Wilson, and his staff! Good evening, N-CMS Red Devil Family! Here are your announcements for the week of May 5-9, 2025. Our chorus will hold a concert on Monday, May 12, at 6:30 in the auditorium at Newton-Conover Middle School. Come out and support our chorus students who have worked hard this semester preparing for this event.  On Tuesday, our 8th-grade students will participate in a career exploration event called Be Pro Be Proud. During this event, students will interact with various simulators that demonstrate various professions such as being a welder, truck driver, operating an excavator, and more. This is a great opportunity for our students to learn about different career options.  On Thursday, May 8, our 6th and 7th grade Band will hold a concert at 6:30 in the auditorium at N-CMS. 8th-grade band students will have a concert on May 13, at 7 p.m. at Newton-Conover High School. Come out and support our band students.  Friday, May 9th, is Awards Day. 8th-grade awards will be at 8:30 a.m., 7th-grade awards will be at 12:00 p.m., and 6th-grade awards will be at 10:30 a.m. Students who are getting an award have an invitation sent home with them. We encourage students to dress up and look their best for the ceremony. The award ceremonies will take place in the auditorium at N-CMS.  Our 8th-grade students will have an end-of-the-year beach day celebration on Friday after the awards ceremony.  Teacher Appreciation Week is this week. We want to thank our parents and community businesses who have already donated items to help celebrate and thank our teachers. If any parents, businesses, or community partners would still like to show appreciation to the amazing teachers and staff of N-CMS you can still donate food items, snacks, desserts, or other treats. You can drop items off at the main office any day this week. Thank you, parents, for your help in supporting our teachers.  Required State End-of-Grade Testing will take place from May 15 through May 22. Extend I testing will begin May 12. Students are required to take end-of-year testing. A letter went home with information about testing and a permission form for students to leave school early on their last day of testing. The permission form is due back by May 9. Parents, please encourage your child to stay on top of their assignments and ensure they submit their work on time so they can finish the year strong and with the best grades possible. Friday, May 9th, is Awards Day. Parents, mark your calendars, required State End-of-Grade Testing will take place from May 15 through May 22. Extend I testing will begin May 12. Students are required to take end-of-year testing. A letter went home with information about testing and a permission form for students to leave school early on their last day of testing that needs to be returned to school. N-CMS will hold an ESL Parent meeting on April 14 at 5:30 p.m. Our 6th and 7th-grade students who qualified for the Quarter 3 academic reward will have their reward this Wednesday. On Thursday, students from N-CMS will compete and participate in the Catawba County Special Olympics at Henry Fork Park. We will also have students compete in the Math Competition at CVCC. Thursday will be our schoolwide Positive Behavior Reward. Kona Ice will be here selling snow cones. This is a reminder there is no school on Friday, April 18 In athletic news, N-CMS Cheerleading Tryouts will be held May 6-8 from 3:45-6:30 in the gym. These are similar to end-of-grade state assessments and will provide valuable data for teachers to help them prepare remediation plans leading up to the state tests. Students will take the math assessment on Monday, Reading on Tuesday, and 8th-grade students will take Science on Thursday. Please encourage your child to do their best, get plenty of rest, and eat breakfast. N-CHS Color Guard and Dance Team tryouts will be held April 7-9, 3-5 p.m. in the band room. This is for 8th graders who are attending N-CHS or Discovery next year. Members of the N-CMS Chorus will attend the Lenoir-Rhyne Musical Festival this Tuesday. Band and Chorus students have a trip to the Carowinds Festival of Music event on Friday. Our 8th-grade students who met the criteria for our 3rd-quarter academic reward will be attending a Crawdads game on Wednesday.
