Many of our freshmen’s views on DHS have changed for the better. From week one to week two, we have heard their thoughts on the school, the community that comes with DHS, and all the activities they’re excited for.

Several freshmen altered their perception of Discovery just after the first week. “At first, it seemed like a lot more classes here. Now it’s a lot easier since I realize that you can get a lot of help,” said Levi Kittrell. The first week can be overwhelming, but most freshmen realize there is a lot of support.

Some of the reasons freshmen choose Discovery are the academic reputation and the friendly atmosphere. Sometimes, however, students have relatives who attended. “I have some family that came here, and they said if you want to be prepped for college, you should go here,” said Elijah Caldwell. Most have come to Discovery for the credits or the knowledge the school offers.

When we asked some freshmen how they would describe DHS, they had a variety of answers. “Really welcoming, and a really good place to make friends. A good place to jump-start you for college,” said Caldwell.

Many freshmen are looking forward to this year—especially the community and friendships. Some are simply excited for clubs and classes: “The clubs I’m going to join, and some of Mrs. Greenwald’s classes,” said Kittrell.

Freshman Taytum Symahanou found his first week smoother than expected, noting that the welcoming atmosphere and shorter block times made the transition painless. “All the teachers and students are nice,” said Symahanou. “Some of the class periods go by very quickly because I’m used to 90-minute classes,” he continued.

Our freshmen have many fun activities waiting for them, such as Park Day, community events, and many more experiences that DHS has to offer. Many freshmen are excited to see what DHS has in store for them.
