On Friday, September 18th, Discovery High School made another trip to Southside Park for the annual Park Day. This is a day when students of all grade levels go to the park, participate in team-building, and create bonds.

“Park Day is a good time of community with the school, and it allows students to have a brain break to reset our minds and form bonds that we’ll appreciate for the following years,” said Esther Urbina Martinez, a junior attending DHS. The main reason for Park Day is to help students from different grade levels create friendships and come together to have a fun time.

Many activities take place during the event as well. There are games like Ships and Sailors (a Simon Says-like game) and Assassins (a tag-like game) that students play every year. Students can also play dodgeball, badminton, or volleyball. “My favorite part of Park Day was tug-of-war because the freshmen won,” said freshman Reagan Kilby.

Another activity during the day is fundraising. Two groups set up booths: the Student Senate and the Science Olympiad Team. These fundraisers include drinks and snacks like popsicles, cookies, pretzels, and chips.

For other students, it was their last Park Day. “I feel a little sad because I really like Park Day and it’s special to me,” said senior Anthony Giometti.

Although the weather that day was hot, humid, and sunny, students still enjoyed the event.
