Newton-Conover Band Goes To NYC For Spring Break

Story by Jessica Tercero-Lopez

Throughout spring break, students and teachers usually rest, taking a reprieve from the work and burnout that come with constant academic demands; many travel elsewhere to enjoy their week off. However, for the Newton-Conover Band, the experience was a bit different. They spent five days in the “City That Never Sleeps”: New York City.

Although their time was limited, the group made the most of every moment. Students visited iconic locations such as Times Square, the 9/11 Memorial & Museum, and a harbor cruise. They even attended a Yankees baseball game.

Even with the packed five-day schedule, the most memorable parts of the trip weren’t just the sights or the food; instead, it was the bonding and time spent together that counted most. “There were some people before the trip I felt like I didn’t know much about, but throughout the trip, I got to become friends with them and learn their stories,” said Ryan Scarbrough.

Both money and memories were spent in the big city, but within those few days, many truly enjoyed their spring break before returning to weeks of review for the various tests awaiting them in May.
