Back to the Station: Prom Returns to a Fan-Favorite Venue

Story by Clancy Maier

Prom is often described as one of the most fun and lovable experiences at any high school, and Discovery is no exception! Every year, we host Prom in early spring, open to juniors and seniors, for an unforgettable night of joy and laughter. From slow dancing to doing the Macarena with your friends, and from drinking way too much soda to trying some truly decadent dishes, Prom is a vital high school event to attend. Prom venues switch around every few years, and this year we are changing the venue again– but not to a new venue, but to an older area we used many times in the past.

Mrs. Ward, who is the head of the Prom committee, is quite happy with the new change. One of the biggest issues with last year’s venue was that, despite the venue’s beauty, it was quite cold! Mrs. Ward even stated, “I like this one better, purely because of the temperature control! Last year was beautiful, but the lack of temperature control made it difficult.”

So this year it will be in an enclosed room with a chance to go outside, if you’d like to brave the cold. If you’d like to look at where the Prom venue will be, even though it will be rather barren and undecorated right now, the new venue is at Conover Station, 403 Conover Station SE, Conover, NC 28613. We hope to see you there!

Mrs. Ward isn’t the only one excited about the new venue, because the seniors are just as excited! Senior Aliah Escamilla said, “I’m excited for the outdoor area, so I can take pictures!”, while another senior, Ashlynn Snead, stated, “I’m interested to see what it (the venue) will look like.”

The seniors are bubbling with excitement for Prom, and it’s not just the new venue that’s causing it! The Prom theme this year is Enchanted Garden, and it is already very popular. Senior Caelyn Young said, “I think it’s really cute, it’s a great theme to match dresses.”

And the seniors even have their own small traditions after the dance. Some, like Young, are going out to eat after the dance and to hang out with her friends for one last incredible time before college. Others, like Escamilla, are going to play pickleball in the nearby courts! Whatever you decide to do after Prom, it is sure to be a night of laughing until your chest hurts, accompanied by a few melancholic tears as well.

Every year, there is a lot of work that goes into planning Prom, making sure the venue is found and booked, planning a theme, getting decorations and food, and the Prom committee always does an excellent job at going above and beyond to give seniors(and some juniors!) a truly magical night. “I’m interested to see what the centerpieces are going to look like; that will be really cool,” Stated Mrs. Ward, expressing her excitement for the decorations. Even this year, seniors are already showcasing excitement for centerpieces, food, hanging out with friends, dressing up, and even playing pickleball after Prom, as Escamilla stated! I hope the seniors enjoy their Prom as they enter a new stage of their lives.
