With the turn of a new school year, Discovery High School has gotten a fresh batch of new faces, but what are their thoughts on coming to a new school, especially one as diverse and different as Discovery?

It has already been an eventful first two weeks at Discovery, between the fun chaos of a first week, then immediately followed by Spirit Week, which ends with Cupcake Day, the Freshmen are certainly being bombarded with exciting new experiences and the vibe of Discovery as a whole.

“It was a whole 180 from my middle school,” said Isaiah Cook. Discovery allows students to see a new side to what schooling can be.

Between the more personal teaching style of teachers and the more college vibe, it is certainly very different from how most middle schools are structured. “It’s very laid back and I can actually focus on work instead of speeding to get it done,” said Alaina Walker.

Starting a new school can be difficult for anyone, but it also has its benefits. “It allows me to have a fresh start on school,” said Robert Kiser.

Being in a magnet school means that some may not know anyone when transferring, especially if they are transferring from out of district, but that isn’t always a bad thing. ”Not all of my friends are here, but I made new friends,” said Tamiya Lewis.

Discovery allows a more inclusive and welcoming environment, one in which learning is paramount, and giving everyone a chance to shine is one of the most important things. “Everyone is friendly and welcoming. Everything is really chill,” said Lewis. All the new faces seem to love this school just as much as the seniors, which is to say, a lot.
