As seniors graduate, more and more sophomores have to step up into leadership roles; these new roles can bring a lot of responsibility. Although sophomores usually don’t get leadership positions, one has stepped up to the job.

Bailey Elrod, the leader of the Publicity Committee, spoke about her new role. “I sort of just didn’t expect it, but it’s just been really great, especially my committee… I’m one of the youngest people on leadership, and I really don’t feel like it because we all hear each other out, and we all have really good ideas,” said Elrod.

Ryan Scarbrough, another member of the Publicity Committee, is very happy to have his new role. “I think it’s a real honor to be able to help my school, listen to other people’s feedback, and help them make Discovery the best it can be for them,” said Scarbrough.

It sounds like a lot of work, but it can also be a creative outlet for some of the sophomores. Annabelle Shook is also a member of the Publicity Committee, but she has a different role from the others: she creates the poster designs for the Student Senate.

Some of the leadership members of the Student Senate have said amazing things about this sophomore class. “Honestly, I think they’re doing a really great job. This is one of the best Senates I could ask for,” said President Anthony Giometti.

The principal of DHS, Shane Whitener, is very proud of these students and has great hope for them. “I’ve been impressed with the group of sophomores so far, and I know once they kind of get accustomed to how everything works, they’ll be able to contribute quite a bit,” said Whitener.
