Spotlight on DHS Graduates - Morgan Davis

Morgan is a 2017 graduate from Discovery High School. She is currently attending Catawba Valley Community College to obtain an associates degree in engineering. She, currently, is working as a front end associate at Walmart while attending college. She's a cashier and a self checkout host. She is there to help provide customer service and help people checkout their groceries smoothly and fast. When asked about her favorite memory at DHS, she says " My favorite memory would be going to family. We could have parties, eat food, watch movies, and socialize."

Spotlight on DHS Graduates - Anna Wike

Anna is a 2019 graduate from Discovery High School. She is currently enrolled at Lenoir Rhyne University and is majoring in Criminal Justice and Sociology. Anna is also working part time at the Dairy Center in Newton. She says her favorite memories of DHS are park days.

Spotlight on DHS Graduates - Ethan Branton

Ethan is a 2017 graduate from Discovery High School. Following graduation, Ethan joined the Marines and has been serving for the past 3 years. What does Ethan say is his favorite memory of DHS? "Graduation. It was very bittersweet but seeing the culmination of our 4 years at Discovery coming to an end and being celebrated like that is something that I have always been grateful for and even at the time you could definitely feel that everyone knew it was the kind of experience that you only get one of. Which made it all that more special." Ethan is the person in the center of the picture.

Spotlight on DHS Graduates - Ashlyn Helms

Ashlyn is a 2012 graduate from Discovery High School. After graduation, she went straight into the workforce. Currently she works at Rock Barn Country Club Spa as a concierge in the cafe preparing food & she is a medtech at an assisted living facility (Brookdale Hickory NE) where she administers medications, insulin, first aid etc. When asked about her favorite DHS memory, she says "My favorite memory of DHS, or (NCHSHS) as I knew it, was definitely families and the “talent show” we had. I also really loved Mr. Willard."

Weekly Announcements November 16th

Good afternoon Discovery family. I hope that everyone has had a terrific weekend. I want to thank everyone who supported our BBQ Fundraiser on Friday. We were able to raise about $5500.

This is a pretty quiet week. However, I want to go ahead and remind everyone that next Monday November 23rd is an A Day and Tuesday November 24th is a B Day. Biology, English 2, Math 1 and Math 3 students will be taking their 2nd Case 21 assessments on these days as well.

November 25th-November 29th is Thanksgiving Break.

Yearbook

The Discovery High School year book theme will be a Journey Through the History of 2020. The yearbook will focus on the pandemic and what will become of it. The students are living through a pandemic and through this theme we hope to capture all the ups and downs the students have had this year along with the exciting events we have to look forward to in order to make the best of the year. With the new changes like social distancing and mask mandates, we appreciate how students have adapted and are making the best of it. The 2020 yearbook will be an insight to what's under the masks!

Costs are: $39.99 for each yearbook or $50.00 for a personalized yearbook. Please see attached to order.

Weekly Announcements Nov. 9th

Good afternoon Discovery family. I hope that you've had a great weekend. Please see below for this week's activities.

Monday and Tuesday will be A Days. Wednesday is a holiday in honor of Veterans' Day. Thursday will be a B Day.

Friday we will be hosting our fall barbecue. Plates are $10 and include chopped barbecue, beans, slaw, chips and dessert.

Spotlight on DHS Graduates - Danielle Catena

Danielle is a 2016 graduate of Discovery High School. Following graduation, Danielle joined the Navy and has been serving for the past 4 years. Her favorite memory of DHS is a tie between the huge waterballoon fights and walking downtown for ice cream during family. She says, "Those were always the best."
