Spring Break Announcement

Good afternoon Discovery family. I hope you all have had a wonderful week. As a reminder, students will not be in school Friday April 2nd through Sunday April 11th due to Spring Break. Then students will not be in school Monday April 12th and Tuesday April 13th as we plan to bring students back to school under Plan A on Wednesday April 14th.

Our spring barbecue fundraiser will be Friday April 30th. Students will be bringing home more information about this after break.

Spotlight on DHS Graduates - Cam Duran

Cam is a 2017 graduate from Discovery High School. After high school, Cam enrolled in school at the University of Pennsylvania where he is studying Philosophy, Politics and Economics. When asked where you are currently working, Cam responded "Currently, I work in Penn’s Office of Social Equity and Community helping bridge community relations and address Penn’s social impact on the surrounding West Philadelphia community. I also help review wrongful convictions and investigate police misconduct as an intern at the Philadelphia District Attorney’s Office. After I graduate in May, I’ll be working at a civil rights law firm in NYC (Neufeld Scheck & Brustin) that represents victims of police misconduct and people who have been wrongfully convicted in their civil lawsuits." Cam's favorite memories of DHS are playing spades in family with Dixon or playing guitar and writing songs for his projects.

Spotlight on DHS Graduates - Amber Miller

Amber is a 2017 graduate from Discovery High School. Following graduation, Amber enlisted in the military and has been serving in the Navy for the past 2 years. When asked what her favorite memory of DHS was, she responded " All of it! Cupcake day for Maggie 💕".

Spotlight on DHS Graduates - Avery Lineberger

Avery is a 2017 graduate from Discovery High School. After high school, he attended Lees McRae College where he is studying Outdoor Recreation Management. Currently, he is teaching ski lessons at Beech Mountain and mountain bike lessons. Avery says that his favorite memories of DHS was doing random tasks for Dixon and talent.

Spotlight on DHS Graduates - Georgia Mintz

Georgia is a 2016 graduate from Discovery High School. She went into the workforce after graduation and is currently working for Lincoln County EMS an an EMT-B. She will be pursuing a career in Law Enforcement. Her favorite memory of DHS is the closeness.

Spotlight on DHS Graduates - Christine Lo

Christine is a 2008 graduate from the then Newton-Conover Health Science High School. Following graduation, she attended UNC Greensboro where she obtained a degree in Fine Arts. Currently she is the owner of Golden Sun Home Care. They send aides to aide in independent living of the aging and disabled adults. Her favorite memory is the community.

Spotlight on DHS Graduates - Katie Disharoon

Katie is a 2017 graduate from Discovery High School. She is attending UNC Chapel Hill (she will graduate this spring) where she is majoring in Sociology and is obtaining a minor in Social and Economic Justice. She states, "All of my favorite memories are about doing things with my friends, like using VR in the creativity room, having a month-long Mario Kart tournament during the lunch period, probably annoying Mrs. Hawn more than we did work during our online class time in the library... I also love remembering the time Phoenix got kicked out of Mr. Scronce’s class for playing Mambo no.5 every morning."

Three DHS Students Selected for Governor's School

Congratulations to Abigail Albert, Mariah Culpepper, and Brigman Potocki for being selected to Governor's School. This is a tremendous honor and all three of them are extremely proud of this accomplishment. Abigail and Brigman will be going in the area of Math and Mariah will be going in the area of Social Science. Best of luck to all three!! Please click on the headline for pictures of each of them.
