Weekly Announcements May 1st

Good afternoon Discovery family. I hope that everyone is enjoying the beautiful weather we're having this weekend. Thanks to everyone who purchased BBQ for our school fundraiser yesterday. Below are the announcements for this week.

Yesterday evening at 5:00, Governor Cooper put a new Executive Order in place that will relax some of our COVID related requirements at the school. The following is part of an email that Dr. Gabriel shared with the district which applies directly to us.  "Face coverings no longer have to be worn outside but do have to be worn inside. As such, unless an individual meets one of the face covering exceptions noted in the Strong Schools Toolkit,  face coverings are still required to be worn inside school buildings and on school buses. This means that students will no longer have to wear face coverings at outdoor events such as recess and staff conducting outdoor supervision duties will not have to wear face coverings either. High school and middle school student-athletes for our outdoor spring sports will not have to wear face coverings (and neither will the spectators)."

Discovery was recently recognized in the US News and World Report as one of the best high schools in the state and the nation. Please select the link in your email for more information about this.

We are quickly approaching our end of year testing. AP tests actually begin Monday and Ms. Arditti has shared out a schedule for these tests. The English 2 End of Course test will be on Thursday May 20th. There will be a review session for Biology and Math 1 on Monday May 24th and then these students will test on Tuesday May 25th. There will be a review session for Math 3 on Tuesday May 25th and then these students will test on Wednesday May 26th.

Teacher Appreciation Week is next week. Please let your teachers know how much you appreciate everything they do for you.

Here are the Character Awards for this Week. At Community on Thursday, I shared that seniors will be getting yard signs to display at their house. In person students should stop by the office to pick his/hers up. Remote students should also come by the office to get theirs.

Take care and as always, please let us know if you need anything.
